HC Deb 04 May 1911 vol 25 cc595-6
Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that while the time of service in the Royal Navy for pension has been increased from twenty to twenty-two years, the good conduct gratuity for chief petty officers has been reduced from £20 to £15, which is the same as for petty officers; whether he can explain the reason for this reduction; and whether he will consider the advisability of reverting to the former position?

Mr. McKENNA

I have nothing to add to the answer I gave in reply to a similar question by the Noble Lord the Member for Portsmouth on 31st March, 1910.

Sir CLEMENT KINLOCH-COOKE

asked whether the foundation of a man's pension in the Royal Navy is still limited to 10d. per day, apparently based on the scale of per day for each year's service; that, although the period of service to obtain the pension has been increased from twenty to twenty-two years, no corresponding increase in amount has been granted for the additional time required to be served; and whether he will consider the possibility of making some additional allowance for the two extra years' service?

Mr. McKENNA

I have nothing to add to the answer I gave in reply to a similar question by the Noble Lord the Member for Portsmouth, on the 31st March, 1910.
