HC Deb 04 May 1911 vol 25 cc584-5
Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

asked whether any application as to the encouragement of Irish tobacco cultivation had been placed before the Development Commission; and, if so, when the Commission were likely to deal with the matter?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH (a Lord of the Treasury)

I am informed that the Development Commissioners have had some correspondence with the Irish Tobacco-Growers Association; but no formal application for an advance from the Development Fund for the encouragement of tobacco-growing in Ireland has reached the Commissioners. If such formal application is made, I have no doubt it will be carefully considered by the Development Commissioners.

Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

Will it be sufficient to forward to the Commission the application from the tobacco-growers, or must it be sent through the Department of Agriculture in Ireland?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I think it must be sent direct.
