Mr. CATHCART WASONasked the Secretary to the Treasury if he was aware that, by the maps sent out by the Road Board, the Orkney Islands are shown on a smaller scale than the rest of the United Kingdom; and if he would take the necessary steps to ensure that all maps issuing from public offices affecting Scotland shall be on the same scale?
§ Mr. GULLAND (Lord of the Treasury, for Mr. Hobhouse)I am informed that the fact is as stated, but that the scale of the map was immaterial for the purposes for which it was issued. I do not think that it would be advisable to direct that all maps of Scotland, or of parts of Scotland issuing from public departments, should be on the same scale.
Mr. CATHCART WASONMay I ask whether the hon. Gentleman will see that Orkney does not suffer from this carelessness on the part of an official?
