HC Deb 01 May 1911 vol 25 c3
Mr. JAMES O'KELLY

asked the Postmaster-General, whether, in view of the extensive area contained in the postal round of Michael Sweeney, of Ballyduffy, Strokestown, county Roscommon, he will consent to the appointment of an assistant to do a portion of Mr. Sweeney's district, as was formerly arranged; and whether he is aware that Mr. Sweeney has served for twenty-three years and finds the work growing impossible for him, and respectfully requests the appointment of an assistant or to be allowed to retire on a pension based on the number of years he has served?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

I find that the postman's round is well within the usual limits, and that there are no grounds for relieving him of any part of it. When an auxiliary was employed to do part of this round, the post was worked on foot and not by cycle as at present. The postman is not yet eligible for pension.
