HC Deb 01 May 1911 vol 25 cc41-2
Mr. KING

I desire to ask the Home Secretary a question of which I have given him private notice—namely, whether the Rev. S. J. Ford, who was on Friday last committed by the Nailsworth (Gloucestershire) Bench to prison for two months for non-payment of his education rate, amounting to 1s. 9d., is now in prison; and whether the right hon. Gentleman will take this case into earnest and immediate consideration?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I will make inquiry into this matter without delay. After what occurred in Mr. Ford's case a year ago, I find it difficult to believe that the magistrates could have again imposed a sentence of two months to enforce payment of a sum of 1s. 9d.
