§ Mr. PETOasked the Under-Secretary of State for War how many subalterns, approximately, in His Majesty's Army are, at the present time, and have been for a period exceeding one month, commanding companies without any additional pay in consideration of the extra work and responsibility?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Colonel Seely)In order to supply the information asked for it would be necessary to call for a return from every battalion, which would involve very considerable labour and long delay. But I may point out that additional pay is not given to a regimental officer temporarily employed in a higher rank, and that cases such as the hon. Gentleman refers to are very uncommon except in the leave season.
§ Mr. PETOWill the right hon. Gentleman use his now undoubted influence in the direction of granting additional pay to subalterns who are in command of companies for periods exceeding one month?
§ Colonel SEELYI must have notice of that question.
