HC Deb 22 March 1911 vol 23 c386
Mr. NOEL BUXTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he had any official information respecting a decree of the governor of San Thomé Island for repatriation of the serviçaes from Angola which applies only to the labourers who are in the employ of the State and not to those on private estates?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The information which I have received from the British Vice-Consul at San Thomé is that the Governor has issued an order that in future all serviçaes must be repatriated on the termination of their contracts, from both the Islands of Principé and San Thomé. As the hon. Member for West Leeds was informed on the 7th instant, the question is also being considered by the Portuguese Government, but I have not yet learnt the result of their deliberations.
