HC Deb 22 March 1911 vol 23 c405
Mr. CLYNES

asked whether Messrs. Armstrong, Whitworth, and Company, Manchester, are now or have recently been engaged on any Government contract; whether the right hon. Gentleman is aware that men are employed at 6d. per hour doing painting work, which according to the working rules in the trade should be paid at 9d.; and whether he can take some action to secure the observance of the fair contracts clause?

Mr. BUXTON

The Board of Trade have no contract with the firm named. Any question as to the observance of the Fair Wage Clauses by a particular Government contractor ought to be addressed to the Department making the contract.
