HC Deb 21 March 1911 vol 23 cc233-4
Mr. WATT

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has recently been called to the fact that Scottish peers who are not chosen to represent their body in the House of Lords are disqualified from sitting in the House of Commons, whereas Irish peers not so chosen have the privilege of being elected to this House; and whether he can see his way to introduce legislation to put the two bodies on an equality, either by permitting unchosen Scottish peers to sit in this House or by excluding unchosen Irish peers?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am well aware of the inequality referred to by my hon. Friend, but I am not at present prepared to introduce legislation on the subject.
