HC Deb 21 March 1911 vol 23 c240
Mr. HUDSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade:—(1) If his attention has been called to the danger to vessels to and from the River Tyne by a partly submerged sailing vessel in the vicinity; and what steps he proposes to take in the matter; and (2) if he is aware that steamers arriving in the Tyne have reported a derelict hopper floating off the mouth of the Humber dangerous to navigation; and whether immediate steps will be taken to remove this danger to shipping?

Mr. BUXTON

I will answer these two questions together, as I believe they refer to the same derelict. The Trinity House informed me on Saturday that their district tender at Yarmouth had been despatched to search for the derelict, but I have since had a report from South Shields to the effect that a steamer took a derelict in tow and that the tow rope broke and the derelict sank at a spot about nine miles east by south of the Spurn.
