HC Deb 21 March 1911 vol 23 c234
Mr. PEEL

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the resolution passed unanimously by the Associate Chambers of Commerce at their annual meeting on the 15th inst., urging upon the Government the necessity of appointing a Royal Commission to inquire into the fiscal question; and what steps he proposes to take in the matter?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have no official knowledge of the resolution referred to. The same suggestion has been several times put forward during the last eight years. In the opinion of the Government no advantage would arise from the appointment of such a Commission.

Mr. PEEL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the proposal is strongly supported by that eminent banker and Free Trader, Sir Felix Schuster, speaking as a Free Trader?
