HC Deb 16 March 1911 vol 22 c2438
Mr. THOMAS F. SMYTH

asked the Chief Secretary if he can state whether the Congested Districts Board will carry out any scheme in connection with drainage in the congested area, as in several low-lying districts along the River Shannon and its tributaries damage to the extent of several thousands of pounds is done every year owing to the destruction of crops by flooding?

Mr. BIRRELL

The drainage of the River Shannon and its tributaries is a task far beyond the resources of the Congested Districts Board, and such a scheme could not be undertaken by them.
