HC Deb 15 March 1911 vol 22 c2211
Mr. NORTON-GRIFFITHS

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if his attention had been drawn to Sir Joseph Ward's statements that our dominions would be prepared to join in the maintenance of an Imperial Navy; and if he would consider what steps he is prepared to take with a view of supporting this suggestion at any discussion which may take place at the forthcoming Imperial Conference?

Mr. McKENNA

My attention has been drawn to Sir Joseph Ward's statements as they have appeared in the Press, but it would be premature to discuss now questions which should more properly be reserved for the forthcoming Imperial Conference.

Sir GILBERT PARKER

Is it not the case that New Zealand at the present moment does contribute to the Imperial Navy?

Mr. McKENNA

Yes, very materially.

Mr. ARTHUR LEE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether there is any item on the Agenda of the Imperial Conference upon which this subject can be discussed?

Mr. McKENNA

I think there is.

Mr. LEE

There will be an opportunity?

Mr. McKENNA

Yes, I think so.
