HC Deb 15 March 1911 vol 22 cc2240-1
Mr. JESSE COLLINGS

asked the exact terms of the reference to the Departmental Committee appointed for considering the position of tenant farmers in relation to their holdings?

Mr. GULLAND

The committee has been appointed to inquire into the position of tenant farmers in England and Wales on the occasion of any change in the ownership of their holdings, whether by reason of the death of the landlord, the sale of the land, or otherwise, and to consider whether any legislation on the subject is desirable.

Colonel YATE

Will the Government include in these terms of reference an instruction to the Committee to inquire into and report how far the financial legislation of the Government has tended to bring about the threatened ruin of tenant-farmers?

Mr. STANIER

Is it usual to have only one Member of the Opposition on such a large Committee as this?

Mr. SPEAKER

That does not arise out of the question on the Paper.
