HC Deb 14 March 1911 vol 22 c2053
Mr. ELLIS DAVIES

asked the President of the Local Government Board what is the rateable value per head of the population in England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, including Monmouthshire, respectively?

Mr. BURNS

According to the latest information available the amount of rateable value per head of estimated population in England, excluding Monmouthshire, is £6 1s. 5d., and in Wales and Monmouthshire is £5 5s. 8d. For information respecting Scotland and Ireland I would refer my hon. Friend to the Lord Advocate and the Chief Secretary for Ireland.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Can any reliable statistics be based upon this rateable value, and may I ask whether the system of assessment does not vary from parish to parish and union to union?

Mr. BURNS

The reliability of the figures in this connection concerns me. I am asked for certain information, and I am doing my best to supply it.

Mr. MORRELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman give us his views as to that?
