asked what is the number of valuers' assistants at present employed on the land valuation; what is the total cost to date of the valuations; and what is the total income received from the various duties?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

The number of valuers' assistants employed in the Valuation Department is 404 (not including 472 clerks). Up to the 28th ultimo the cost of the valuations (including those made for Death Duty purposes and for annual licence value purposes under Section 44 (2) of the Finance (1909–10) Act, 1910) is £129,942. As regards the third part of the question, I beg to refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for the Chelmsford division of Essex on the 8th ultimo.
