HC Deb 13 March 1911 vol 22 c1852
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture if he would endeavour to include in the annual report on the working of the Small Holdings Act information from each county as to the rateable value or gross rental of the lands acquired before such acquisition, and also at the present time now that the land was used by small holders?

Mr. GULLAND

I do not think any useful purpose would be served by the adoption of this suggestion, even if it were possible to obtain the information.

Mr WEDGWOOD

Is the hon. Member aware that the rates are raised on these small holders in order to cover the increased rent and to recover the 15 per cent. or 20 per cent. extra which is charged for cost of collection?

Mr. GULLAND

Will the hon. Gentleman give me notice of that question?

Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture if he would include in the annual report on the working of the Small Holdings Act information as to the terms on which land had been acquired in each county, whether by purchase or lease, the average length of such leases, and whether powers of renewal had been secured in the original lease?

Mr. GULLAND

I am afraid that this suggestion cannot be adopted this year, inasmuch as the Report is already being printed. I will, however, consider whether it is possible to do so for the future.
