HC Deb 07 March 1911 vol 22 cc1022-3
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture what is to be the composition of the proposed committee to inquire into the breaking-up of large estates; what will be the terms of reference; and when is it to be appointed?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Sir E. Strachey)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave on this subject to the hon. Member for the Wilton Division on the 2nd instant.

Sir GILBERT PARKER

Will the terms of reference to the committee include the acquisition of land by small tenants and small holders, and also the question of financial assistance?

Sir E. STRACHEY

That is a very important question, and I must ask the hon. Gentleman to give notice of it.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Is it proposed to include representatives of tenant farmers on this committee?

Mr. MORRELL

Is it proposed to include representatives of small holders on this committee?

Sir E. STRACHEY

I must ask both hon. Gentlemen to wait and see.
