§ Mr. ERNEST JARDINE (for Mr. C. Bathurst)asked what are the terms of reference to the new departmental com- 561 mittee to consider the position of farm tenants consequent upon the increasing tendency of agricultural landowners to put their estates upon the market; whether such committee has already been constituted; and, if so, of whom does it consist?
§ Sir E. STRACHEYThe Committee will be appointed to inquire into the position of tenant farmers in England and Wales on the occasion of any change in the ownership of their holdings, whether by reason of the death of the landlord, the sale of the land or otherwise, and to consider whether any legislation on the subject is necessary. I hope to be in a position to announce the names during the next few days.
