HC Deb 02 March 1911 vol 22 c535
Mr. MacVEAGH

asked the Chief Secretary whether his attention had been called to the condition of the harbour at Newcastle, county Down; and whether, in view of the necessity for rendering it safe for fishing boats and for preventing the accumulation of sand at the mouth of the basin, he will draw the attention of the Development Commissioners to the desirability of extending the north pier?

Mr. BIRRELL

I understand that the Board of Works drew the attention of the county council to the accumulation of sand at the mouth of Newcastle Harbour, and the county council stated that a contract had been made for removing the silt. The question of extending the North Pier has not been before the Board of works, but it is open to the county council to make representations on the subject to the Development Commissioners through the Treasury.
