§ Mr. MALCOLMasked the Postmaster-General whether he can now state what decision has been arrived at in regard to the question of the retention of members of the National Telephone Company staff upon the transfer of the telephone service to the State?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELI would refer the hon. Member to a memorandum read in this House by Lord Stanley, the then Postmaster-General, on the 9th August, 1905, in which an undertaking was given 360 that every member of the National Telephone Company's staff in receipt of less than £700 a year, who, on 31st December, 1911, has been not less than two years continuously in the service of the company will be taken into the service of the Post Office.
