HC Deb 29 June 1911 vol 27 cc557-8
Mr. JAMES HOPE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether he has received from the leaders of the insurrection in Northern Albania a copy of the text of their reply of the 24th or 25th instant to the Turkish official overtures; and whether he is prepared to make a statement on the subject?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir E. Grey)

No such document has been received by His Majesty's Government, but a communication from certain Albanian chiefs to be put before the Powers has been received. As long as the trouble is confined to Albania it is an internal question, but if the trouble is prolonged there is serious risk that it may spread further, and involve danger to peace in the Balkans. The Powers are therefore all anxious to see a speedy settlement, but I am not in a position to make any further statement.
