HC Deb 28 June 1911 vol 27 cc423-4
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the Prime Minister, whether he will give an early day for the discussion of the Resolutions relating to the Parliament Bill of which notice was given on Monday last?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

May I ask whether Lord Morley will receive instructions to accept defeat after defeat on Amendments in the other place and carry on the farce to the bitter end or whether the Government will take steps to overwhelm the Peers directly they defeat the House of Commons?

Mr. SPEAKER

That does not arise out of this question.

Mr. GRANT

asked if, in the event of the creation of Peers to facilitate the passage of the Parliament Bill through the House of Lords, the House of Lords possesses the legal power to refuse to allow such Peers to sit and vote?

The PRIME MINISTER

This is a matter on which the hon. Member is as competent to form an opinion as I am.

Mr. JAMES HOPE

Is the right hon. Gentleman quite sure, for the laudable ambition of some of his followers may not be disappointed at the last moment on this ground?
