HC Deb 28 June 1911 vol 27 c429
Mr. MacCAW

asked the Chief Secretary if he will provide facilities for the old age pensioners in the Banbridge district, county Down, to receive their new cheque books at their respective post offices on handing in their old ones, instead of having them delivered at the houses of the pensioners by the Excise officer, as is the custom at present, seeing that this latter system is frequently the cause of much delay?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

Various methods of transmitting new pension order books to pensioners have been carefully considered at different times, and among them that suggested in the hon. Member's question. Owing, however, to administrative difficulties other alternatives were adopted. I am not aware of the frequent occurrence of delay to which the hon. Member refers, but if he will bring any specific cases of undue delay to my notice I will cause careful inquiry to be made.
