asked the estimated cost of the overhaul that is now being given to His Majesty's ship "Europa"?

Mr. McKENNA

The estimated cost of the refit of the "Europa," exclusive of establishment charges, is £62,000; and, including establishment charges, £72,600.

Mr. MIDDLEMORE

Does not the right hon. Gentleman consider that a very large-sum to pay on an elderly ship whose chief armament is five three-pounders?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir. It is a matter which, of course, is very carefully considered by the Board in the case of vessels of this kind, but I think the conclusion was justified, and that the subsequent services of the ship will warrant the expenditure.
