HC Deb 13 June 1911 vol 26 c1458
Mr. BOLAND

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether his attention has been called to the resolution passed by the Kerry County Council on 11th May, which was forwarded to the Board of Works; and whether steps will now be taken to preserve Ballycarbery Castle, near Cahirciveen, as an ancient monument?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

The Chief Secretary's attention has been called to the resolution referred to. There is no obligation on the Board of Works to take over monuments of local interest, and the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, and the Irish Land Act, 1903, enable local authorities to undertake the preservation of such buildings, and give them the necessary powers.
