§ Mr. C. BATHURSTasked the President of the Board of Education whether the Board can devise a more equitable basis for the salaries of teachers in elementary schools than that of the average attendance at such schools; and, if not, whether the Board will direct all local education authorities to follow the course already adopted in Gloucestershire of not reducing a teacher's salary owing to a reduction of attendance over which he has no control, unless such teacher can obtain a post elsewhere under the same authority at not less than his existing salary?
§ The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Runciman)It is satisfactory to know that several local education authorities have recently modified their regulations in the direction Suggested by the hon. Member, and I hope their example will be widely followed. I have, however, no authority to take the step suggested in the second part of the question.
