HC Deb 10 July 1911 vol 28 c14
Mr. PATRICK O'BRIEN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the fact that a man named Michael Deahinity was killed while crossing the railway lines at the Kilkenny station on the Great Southern and Western Railway, on the 28th June, and that the coroner's jury, in recording a verdict of accidental death, added that in their opinion the railway authorities were guilty of gross negligence in not providing proper facilities for the travelling public between the various platforms; that the jury found that the existing subway did not afford anything like adequate accommodation, that the station was not properly lighted, and that additional booking offices were required; and whether he will cause inquiry to be made into these allegations, and see that proper provisions are made for the safety of the public at this station?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Buxton)

An inspecting officer of railways will be visiting Ireland early in August, and I have asked him to visit Kilkenny station. When I receive his report I will communicate further with my hon. Friend.

Mr. P. O'BRIEN

From the railway company?

Mr. BUXTON

No; from one of my own inspectors. I will get his report and communicate with the hon. Member.
