HC Deb 10 July 1911 vol 28 cc22-3
Mr. FFRENCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether, seeing that the English Board of Agriculture have applied to the Development Commissioners for a loan of £50,000 and an annual grant of £8,000 for the purchase and upkeep of vessels for the control of inland waters, the Irish Board of Agriculture are taking any steps in the same direction for the better protection of Irish fisheries?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH (for the Chief Secretary)

The Department of Agriculture in Ireland have already made an application to the Development Commissioners for a large grant for the construction and improvement of harbours and the development and improvement of fisheries in. specified cases which called for urgent action. They have not so far applied for funds for the purchase or upkeep of vessels for protection purposes.
