HC Deb 05 July 1911 vol 27 c1134
Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that it is the practice of the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to cart house refuse to a refuse-tip in the district of High Brooms, which is a nuisance to the people of the locality, the majority of whom have signed a petition against its continuance; whether he is aware that the Kent medical officer of health and the Southborough medical officer of health have reported unfavourably upon the practice of the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council; and whether he proposes to take any action to secure that the nuisance be abated by the construction, of a refuse destructor?

Mr. BURNS

I am aware of the facts stated in the question, and I have been in communication with the town council. They have now made fresh arrangements with regard to the tip, which it is hoped will do away with any nuisance arising from it, and I do not think it necessary at present to press the provision of a destructor.
