HC Deb 05 July 1911 vol 27 cc1111-2
Mr. ASHLEY

asked how many torpedo-boat destroyers were launched for the British and German fleets, respectively, in the seven years from 1894 to 1900, inclusive, and how many in the seven years from 1904 to 1910, inclusive?

Mr. McKENNA

The figures for the British fleet are:—Launched from 1894 to 1900 inclusive, 106; launched from 1904 to 1910 inclusive, 68. The latter figure does not include the two destroyers, "Parramatta" and "Yarra," launched in 1910, and building for the Australian Commonwealth, nor does it include the thirty-six torpedo-boats of the class which was originally called Coastal destroyers. The number of destroyers launched for the German fleet in the calendar years 1894 to 1900 inclusive, was eleven, and from 1904 to 1910 inclusive, sixty-seven, excluding four which have been sold to Turkey.
