Mr. WORTHINGTON-EVANSasked whether the State's contribution to benefits and the cost, of administration thereof under the National Insurance Bill is equivalent to a contribution of 2d. a week; and, if not, whether its equivalent is as follows: for 1912–13 less than ¾d., for 1917–28 about l½d.?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEThe State contribution to the National Health Insurance including the contribution after the increase of benefits which will become possible under Clause 8 (8) on the extinction of the initial deficit, is in the long run the equivalent of 2d., but as the contribution takes the form of a proportion of the benefits the contribution in the early years will always be less than 2d.
Mr. WORTHINGTON-EVANSWill the right hon. Gentleman say in answer to the question what the amount of the equivalent contribution will be in 1912–13 and 1917–28?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEThe hon. Member's calculations in the question, are substantially correct in both cases.
