asked what are the designed speeds of the destroyers laid down in this country and in Germany under the past three programmes?

Mr. McKENNA

The designed speeds of the destroyers for the British Navy referred to are as follows:—Programme 1908-9, "Beagle" class, 27 knots; 1909-10, "Acorn" class, 27 knots; 1910-11, new "Acorn" class, Admiralty design, 27 knots; special, "Archer" and "Attack," 28 knots; special, "Acheron" and "Ariel," 29 knots; special, "Badger" and "Beaver," 30 knots; and special "Fire-drake," "Lurcher," and "Oak," 32 knots. With regard to the destroyers laid down in Germany the designed speeds are to be found in "Nauticus" for 1911. We have no official information concerning them.
