HC Deb 03 July 1911 vol 27 c792
Mr. STANIER

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether the Road Board, when giving a grant for tarmac to be put on the roads, in any way specifies what quality of stone should be used in the manufacture of the tarmac, or is left to the authority who receive the grant?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

Applications from Highway Authorities to the Road Board for advances towards the improvement of road crusts by the use of tar macadam are accompanied by specifications of the works proposed to be done, and the selection of the stone used rests with the Highway authority, subject to the approval of the Road Board.
