HC Deb 27 February 1911 vol 22 cc39-40
Mr. POWER

asked whether the attention of the inspectors of fisheries in Ireland has been drawn to the injury that has been done and is being done by seals to salmon and other fishing in Waterford Harbour and the tidal waters of the River Suir; and, if so, what steps it is proposed to take to lessen the havoc worked by seals in these waters?

Mr. BIRRELL

The reply to the first paragraph of the question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second para- graph, the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction for Ireland are prepared to combine with the local Board of Conservators in offering rewards for the destruction of seals in accordance with the best system that can be arranged to suit local conditions.
