HC Deb 20 February 1911 vol 21 cc1531-2
Mr. CHIOZZA MONEY

asked if, with reference to the grants made to highway authorities by the Road Board, he will, with a view to the regularisation of employment, endeavour to secure that the work in this connection is carried on chiefly in the winter months; and if he will represent to the Road Board that the work initiated by them is peculiarly of a character to be spread with advantage over the lean years of a trade cycle in mitigation of unemployment?

Mr. BURNS

I may refer my hon. Friend to the Written Answer I gave him to this question last week.

Mr. CHIOZZA MONEY

Have any stipulations been made with regard to grants that have just been made by the Road Board?

Mr. BURNS

I think it may be assumed that Sir George Gibb and the Road Board are in communication with the local authorities in this matter, and that they keep Clause 18 before all parties.
