HC Deb 20 February 1911 vol 21 c1533
Mr. GOULDING

asked what was the percentage of aliens landing in this country, excluding transmigrants, during each of the five years 1906–1910 who were inspected under the Aliens Act; and what was the percentage of aliens landing, who under the Act could be made liable to inspection, who were actually inspected?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Assuming that the hon. Member's inquiry relates only to alien passengers from European ports, the figures in answer to the first paragraph are 15 per cent. in 1906, 13 per cent. in 1907 and 1908, 12 per cent. in 1909, and 11 per cent. in 1910. The figures in answer to the second paragraph are 28 per cent. in 1906, 26 per cent. in 1907, 25 per cent. in 1908, and 23 per cent. in 1909 and 1910.

Mr. GOULDING

asked in how many cases orders of expulsion under the Aliens Act have been issued in the cases of aliens found wandering without ostensible means of subsistence, or living under insanitary conditions due to overcrowding (Aliens Act, Section 3 (1) (b); and how many orders have been issued under Section 3 (1) (b) (ii).

Mr. CHURCHILL

Four expulsion orders (three in 1906 and one in 1908) have been issued in the case of aliens found wandering without ostensible means of subsistence: no orders have been issued on the ground of insanitary conditions of living; and one order has been made (in 1906) against an alien who had been sentenced in a foreign country for an extradition crime.

Mr. GOULDING

Has not the right hon. Gentleman power to draw attention to these insanitary conditions in connection with Administrative Orders?
