HC Deb 15 February 1911 vol 21 c1051
Mr. LANSBURY

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether the Central (Unemployed) Body for London has submitted a scheme of work, estimated to employ over 300 men for some months at Herne Bay; whether he has withheld or refused his sanction to the scheme; and what his reasons were for so doing?

Mr. BURNS

As I stated in answer to a question put to me by the hon. Member on Monday last no sanction on my part is required to any scheme which the Central (Unemployed) Body for London may desire to carry out. As regards the suggested scheme of work to which the hon. Member refers, I have not seen my way to assisting it by payments out of the Parliamentary Grant, mainly on the ground that the moneys which I am able to place at the disposal of the Central (Unemployed) Body for London can, in my opinion, be more advantageously applied to schemes of work in London.
