HC Deb 13 February 1911 vol 21 cc668-9
Mr. KING

asked whether the English church at Lagos was now being built by the Public Works Department of the Colony of Southern Nigeria; how much was subscribed from voluntary sources for this church by the 31st December, 1910; whether the amount of money subscribed included promises or only moneys actually received; and how much of the offered contribution of £1,500 from the Colonial revenues had been claimed towards the erection of this church?

Mr. HARCOURT

The church is being built Joy the Public Works Department, and quarterly statements are published showing full details of expenditure as well as of the sums subscribed and promised. The statement for December last has not yet been received, and I am therefore unable to state how much has been claimed in respect of the contribution promised by the Colonial Government.

Mr. KING

As the amount to be paid out of public sources depends upon the sum subscribed up to December 31st last and not subscribed subsequently, can we have the statement of accounts up to 31st December last as soon as possible?

Mr. HARCOURT

Yes, I think in about three weeks I shall be able to let the hon. Member have it.
