HC Deb 09 February 1911 vol 21 cc445-6
Mr. J. P. FARRELL

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the fact that the trunk telephone line has now been extended to Mullingar, he will fulfil the promise of his predecessor to have it extended from Mullingar to Sligo, looping up the towns of Longford, Boyle, and Ballyhadereen en route?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

A guarantee for an extension of the trunk line system to Sligo from Enniskillen was offered to my predecessor by the subscribers to the Sligo Telephone Exchange and its acceptance has for some time been under the consideration of the Treasury. I think the hon. Member is under a misapprehension in supposing that a promise has at any time been given that an extension to Sligo would be made by way of Mullingar.

Mr. J. P. FARRELL

The right hon. Gentleman is talking of the other end of the line. Will the extension to Mullingar be carried on to Sligo?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The matter is, I have said, under the consideration of the Treasury.
