HC Deb 09 February 1911 vol 21 c422
Mr. GINNELL

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he was aware of the large number of labourers' cottages duly sanctioned which cannot be proceeded with for want of the money which he promised for this purpose last year; and whether, in view of the number of families awaiting those dwellings, he would now say when that money will he available for that purpose?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

The hon. Member is under a misapprehension. In only two cases—both recent—have schemes been authorised for which money is not available pending further legislation. Less than 100 cottages in all are concerned, and in neither case have the Local Government Board received an application for sanction to the requisite loan. The money will be forthcoming when the Bill which is to be introduced next week has become law.
