HC Deb 09 February 1911 vol 21 cc449-50
Mr. STANIER

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether the Dutch Government have made any regulations to prevent the Dutch cheese exported to this country being described as Cheshire; and whether their cheeses will now be branded as Dutch?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD OF AGRICULTURE (Sir Edward Strachey)

So far as I am aware the Dutch Government have not made any regulations to prevent the exportation to this country of Dutch cheese described as Cheshire. Negotiations are, however, in progress, and it is hoped an arrangement will be made which will ensure that Dutch cheese of the Cheshire type intended for export to this country will be marked as being Dutch produce.

Mr. STANIER

Can the hon. Baronet tell us if they have not already made a promise in that direction?

Sir E. STRACHEY

I have no official information of that. I see it in the newspapers.
