HC Deb 09 February 1911 vol 21 c423
Mr. J. P. FARRELL

asked the Chief Secretary whether he was aware that the grants for University College, Galway, are £6,000 per year less than the grants to Cork; whether he was aware of the increase of students in Galway College during the past two years; and whether it was his intention to take steps in this Session to equalise the grants for both these constituent colleges of the National university?

Mr. BIRRELL

The annual grants for the constituent colleges at Galway and Cork are fixed by Statute at £12,000 and £20,000 respectively. I am aware that there has been a most satisfactory increase in the number of students at Galway College, and an even larger increase in the number at Cork since the passing of the Act. It is not proposed to introduce amending legislation during the present Session.
