HC Deb 15 December 1911 vol 32 c2699
Lord HENRY CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked the Postmaster-General whether the casual workers who were engaged at the post offices and sub-post offices were still paid less than 6d. an hour at; any offices, and, if so, at how many; and whether he would order that not less than 6d. an hour should be paid under any circumstances during the present Christmas season and at all future periods?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Captain Norton)

The rates of pay for the Christmas casual force in the provinces are those recommended for Auxiliary Postmen by the Select Committee of 1907, and vary from 4½d. to 6d. an hour according to the classification of the particular office. The usual time allowance for night duty is allowed, and work performed on Sunday and Christmas Day is paid for at special rates. It is not proposed to alter this system of payment for the coming season.
