HC Deb 14 December 1911 vol 32 cc2511-2
Colonel CHALONER

asked the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been called to the case of J. F. Abraham, who was charged on 5th December, before the stipendiary magistrate in Middlesbrough, with having forged the name of a depositor in the Savings Bank and obtaining on various dates sums amounting to £90, the property of the depositor; and whether, having regard to the manner in which these sums were obtained, he will take steps to protect the public in the future from fraud?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I am aware that a man named James Frederick Abrams is being prosecuted at my instance for obtaining certain money from the account of a deceased depositor by forgery. He has just been committed for trial. As the proceedings are still pending, it is not expedient that I should discuss the facts. But if the hon. Member will be so good as to communicate with me and explain the points to which he wishes to draw my attention, I will give them consideration.
