HC Deb 14 December 1911 vol 32 cc2522-3
Mr. PATRICK MEEHAN

asked whether any grants have been made from the Development Fund for the purpose of land drainage; whether he is aware that an application by the Barrow drainage committee has been refused, one of the reasons given being that there was no money available for the purpose; and whether steps will be taken to reserve some of the funds under the control of the Development Commissioners for the purpose of land drainage, in accordance with the objects specified in the Development Fund Act to which money provided under the Act was to be applied?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the negative. With regard to the second part, I think the hon. Member is under some misapprehension as to the attitude of the Development Commissioners. They are aware that land drainage is one of the purposes for which the Development Fund can be applied, and are prepared to recommend such application in suitable cases.
