HC Deb 14 December 1911 vol 32 cc2526-7
Lord CHARLES BERESFORD

asked whether, during wet weather, many of the London streets are in a greasy condition; whether he is aware that motor omnibuses racing along the greasy roads and passing other vehicles on the same side of the road are constantly side-slipping; whether he will state to the House if these motor omnibuses are permitted to race round curves from one street into another; and, if not, whether he will take steps to put a stop to these practices in the interests of cyclists and other persons who wish to use the roads?

Mr. McKENNA

It is undoubtedly the case that during wet weather many of the London streets are in a greasy condition, and that at such times motor vehicles are liable to skid; although this liability is being steadily reduced by modern improvements. The racing of motor omnibuses in the streets of London is forbidden, and the police are instructed to prevent as far as possible the reckless or dangerous driving of any vehicles.
