HC Deb 14 December 1911 vol 32 cc2527-8
Mr. GLADSTONE

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman is aware of the character of the Report that the Assistant Registrar of Scotland, appointed to investigate the affairs of the City of Glasgow Friendly Society by the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies, on the application of 500 members of the above society, has submitted; whether he is aware that since the Report has been delivered to the board of management and delegates of the society they have held three adjourned meetings and by vote and resolutions condemned the impartial findings of the inspector, and also passed a resolution commending the manager and the management; and whether he proposes to take any action to prevent the mismanagement of the society's affairs as disclosed in the inspector's Report, and thereby to stop the abuse and waste of the members' funds?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I am aware of the character of the Report of the Assistant Registrar, which I understand is now under the consideration of the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies. The Chief Registrar informs me that when he has had time to consider the Report, he will place himself again in communication with me with a view to considering what steps, if any, are desirable or possible in the circumstances.
