HC Deb 14 December 1911 vol 32 c2525
Mr. GEORGE GREENWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that the late Mr. Justice Stephen, in his Digest of the Criminal Law, gives two alternative versions of the law of blasphemy, each supported by high authority, and expressing the opinion that it would be desirable that the question should be settled by Parliament; and whether he will consider the desirability of introducing legislation in accordance with such opinion?

Mr. McKENNA

I am not aware of any difference of opinion on this question existing between persons of authority at the present time such as Mr. Justice Stephen referred to in his Digest of the Criminal Law published more than thirty years ago, but as a case of blasphemy is now pending before the Court of Criminal Appeal, I can say nothing as to the desirability of amending the law.
