§ Mr. ROBERT HARCOURTasked the Home Secretary whether he was aware that the Lord Chamberlain was considering certain applications for stage play licences by places of entertainment within the area of his jurisdiction already holding the music hall licence, and had proposed to attach to the licence the condition that stage plays in such theatres should not exceed thirty minutes in length; and whether it could be stated what was the statutory authority under which the Lord Chamberlain could grant such licences or impose such a condition as to the length of plays?
§ Mr. McKENNAThe Law Officers are being consulted on this subject. I do not understand that the Lord Chamberlain has made the proposal suggested.
§ Mr. R. HARCOURTWould it be possible, in keeping with the Rules of the House, to communicate the opinion of the Law Officers?
§ Mr. McKENNAI do not think so, but the question might be addressed to the Attorney-General.
